Nylon 11 (PA11) is made from castor oil instead of petroleum. Compared with PA12 it deforms much more before it breaks. Elongation at break reaches 40% in X/Y and notched Izod impact reaches 71 J/m, more than 2 times the PA12 figure. Tensile strength stays almost the same, at 49 MPa.
Choose PA11 if the part has to bend without cracking, for example clips that are fitted often, living hinges, housings that may be dropped or drone arms that take impacts on landing. It absorbs very little water (0.07% per ASTM D570), so it stays stable in damp environments too.
On the other hand, PA11 is less stiff (modulus of 1600 MPa) and deforms under load at a lower temperature than PA12, 46 °C at 1.8 MPa. Fine details and very thin walls come out less well than in PA12.
We print it on the Fuse 1+ 30W, in nitrogen, as Formlabs recommends. It will be available on the Fuse X1 once Formlabs releases the material profile, which is announced for the end of 2026.
